“So, what did you want to say?”

Evan scanned the faces of the heroines with a sidelong glance.

There was a palpable sense of guilt etched on their faces. Whenever their eyes met Evan’s, they flinched, their reactions resembled those of sinners caught off guard. Even the atmosphere seemed to suggest as much, allowing him to infer the situation.

‘The time has come.’

They’re thinking of leaving the party.

Well, that was only to be expected. It was what he had hoped for in the first place.

Realistically, with the party in this state, how could it continue to operate?

‘It wouldn’t be strange at all if they disbanded right now.’

In fact, it was surprising they’d even made it this far.

Evan waited calmly for the women to speak, now feeling a sense of relief.

“What we wanted to say to you… Ahem…”

“Well, you see…”

“………………”

But why were they being so hesitant?

Seemingly feeling guilty, the women struggled to find the words.

Judy was the first to speak up, breaking the silence.

“……To be honest, I’m disappointed,” she began.

“What?”

“It’s just, it’s so unusual for you! That you would indulge in such… unsavory behavior is just not like you at all…”

Evan’s expression conveyed his disbelief at this ridiculous nonsense.

However, she continued in a subdued voice.

“We’ve known each other for over ten years. I’ve always held you in high regard, Evan, but this is just… not you.” She spoke cautiously, as if afraid her words might break.

But her voice remained steady as she continued to confront Evan, locking eyes with him.

And the other heroines did not remain silent either; they chimed in, lending weight to Judy’s words.

“Uh, well. Those back-alley women are a bit… questionable, you know? Who knows, maybe their influence has warped you all this time.”

“I agree. Evan, haven’t you heard that a healthy mind makes a healthy body? It seems you’ve become addicted to this dissolute lifestyle, letting it corrode you. For your own good, you should abstain for a while.”

“Y-Yeah! This is morally wrong, you know!”

The reason for their disappointment — while it did involve moral issues as they said, the biggest factor was their pride as women.

Judy, Chloe, Irinette, Cecilia.

Outwardly they claimed to be Evan’s friends, but that didn’t mean they were completely devoid of romantic feelings for him.

Moreover, whenever Evan treated them well, they felt not only happiness but also a sense of self-worth.

‘I’m a woman of this caliber. I must be quite remarkable to receive such special treatment,’ their pride whispered to them.

And so, Evan’s continued kindness elevated their egos to unprecedented heights. Their self-esteem had morphed into sheer arrogance, to the point where it could be described as beyond self-respect.

But in the end, Evan sought solace in the arms of other women.

“There are plenty of other women out there… Why did it have to be…” one of them lamented.

“How about you focus your attention on more…decent women, Evan? There are plenty of them around you!”

“That’s exactly my point! In love, what matters is the relationship with the other person!”

To think they’d be left for such women, obtained for a few measly coins?

What was lacking?

Were they not as charming as those women?

A common question seeded itself in their minds.

On top of that, jealousy, inferiority complexes, and all manner of ugly desires had converged, making them feel as if their very identity as women was being negated.

Of course, they didn’t want to openly admit it. That would be acknowledging defeat, and their pride simply couldn’t accept that.

“Evan…? Do you understand what we’re saying?”

“…Wow.”

After scratching his head for a while, Evan stood up from his seat. In a voice tinged with incredulity, he uttered, “Besides being disappointed, what gives you the right to judge me like this?”

The heroines had expected Evan to meekly back down, but his response caught them off guard, to say the least.

“Let’s be honest, you’ve all let other men have your bodies too, haven’t you? But when you do it, it’s romance, and when I do it, it’s infidelity, is that it?”

“Th-that’s not what we meant!”

“We may have done that too! But the degree of difference is huge!”

The heroines expressed their dissatisfaction in unison.

“At least we’ve never sold our bodies for money or slept with someone for pay!”

“And at our age, being virgins would be even more strange, right? We-We haven’t been unfaithful either! We just want to have relationships with men!”

“We’re women who want to be loved by someone too, you know!”

“Y-Yeah! We’re women too, you know!”

Evan regarded each of them with disdain as they rambled on. Then, as if stifling vomit, he covered his mouth.

“Ugh…!”

Even amidst this, the heroines’ protests continued, their repulsive voices echoing in Evan’s ears.

As someone once said, no matter how much you wash a mop, it will never become a towel — Evan recalled the words of some unknown sage and held them close to his heart.

“We’re not asking for an apology! We just don’t want you to be angry with us!”

“As Judy said, the point that bothers us is this — you did something wrong too, yet you’re only treating us like the guilty ones.”

They felt guilty about something, so they were trying to justify themselves, but when had he ever treated them like criminals? They were shamelessly brazen.

Evan was at a loss for words.

“Ugh.”

Evan, after a moment of deep breaths with closed eyes, stood up from his seat. Running his rough hands through his hair, he spoke up.

“Shut the fuck up, you filthy whores.”

“Wh-What?!”

The heroines’ faces twisted in outrage at the crude insult.

“Fi-Filthy…?”

“Yo-You just called us filthy whores?!”

A collective outcry erupted from the heroines as Evan calmly addressed them.

“Shut up, all of you. The stench of chicken coop emanating from your mouths is nauseating.”

“What…?”

“Your lower hole may be open, but the upper one should stay closed, no? Or have you gotten too used to playing with holes carelessly?” After finishing his statement, Evan glanced disdainfully at the women and let out a dry chuckle, “And what? Disappointed that I fooled around with prostitutes? You lot are absolutely insane. Is it ethnic hatred because there’s no difference between you and prostitutes?”

The shock exceeded all limits, leaving Judy partially soulless.

With great difficulty, she stammered out her words, “Wh-What did we do?”

“Out of goodwill, I’m telling you, don’t get interested in acting. If you go down that path, you’ll ruin your life without even making a single coin.”

“Wh-What?!”

“Your true nature is transparent. It’s better to cover the sky with your palms.”

In an instant, the confident Judy became a blubbering mess. Following her, Chloe stepped up.

“Ha! I must have misjudged you, Evan! I thought you were a dependable friend, but I’m truly disappointed!”

“Hey, Chloe, stop interrupting and get rid of that hair stuck to your lip before you speak. What even is that hair?”

“……!?”

Even the bold Chloe was reduced to silence. Leaving her touching her lips, Evan turned his gaze to Irinette and Cecilia.

“Cecilia, stop swiping the emergency rations. What are you, a beggar?”

“Eh, eh-eh?”

“Did you think I wouldn’t notice them disappearing from my backpack? And Irinette.”

“Me?”

“If you’re going to fuck, do it in the privacy of an inn, not flail around with a sword in the training grounds. It’s not fighting, it’s fornication. Your moans kept everyone awake, couldn’t get a wink of sleep.”

“I-I don’t understand what you’re talking about…”

“And why do you always leave without cleaning up? The morning training people get quite a shock.”

“…………….”

None of them could respond. Was it out of remorse? No, it was anger.

Judy trembled with anger, barely managing to speak, “…Let it go. But what we’re bothered by is your attitude.”

“My attitude?”

“Yeah! You just ignore us when we ask for something! If we make one mistake, you make us feel so small! If this isn’t a sign of rebellion, then what is it? You’re upset with us, so you’re doing it on purpose!”

It was a completely incomprehensible story.

Evan had simply acted according to his own personality and had never particularly scolded or expressed anger towards these women. It was simply that the original Evan was extremely kind, so this drastic change was enough to become a major problem.

“I’m fed up. So, we had a discussion amongst ourselves. Do you know what we decided?” Judy seized the moment to launch a coordinated attack.

“We decided that we can’t take it anymore if you keep acting this way. If you continue like this, we won’t be able to just sit back either,” she declared, wasting no time in delivering her finishing move.

“And the conclusion is, we’re leaving this party. It feels like you’ve just been seeing us as your doormats, and we’re sorry for that!”

Judy’s voice started trembling. It was a mix of anger and guilt.

It was the same for the other three women as well. They had all hoped Evan would show them mercy.

If the conversation continued this way, forgiveness was expected. Regardless of the reason, they weren’t entirely blameless either.

“…Evan. We hope you can understand our feelings.”

Unlike the bellicose Judy, Chloe only expressed mild discontent.

“We’re not saying we’ll leave right away…. Evan…. If you treat us well again, we’ll reconsider our decision….,” Irinette spoke while avoiding eye contact, weighed down by guilt.

“Th-that’s right…”

Cecilia fidgeted like an embarrassed puppy.

Even Judy, belatedly, added with a hint of remorse, “Well, anyway… that’s it. It’s not entirely set in stone, so don’t be too sad.”

The women hesitated, yet desperately tried to convince Evan.

Meanwhile, Evan surveyed them once more, then spoke in a very exasperated tone, “No, it’s fine. You can just leave it as is.”

“…….? Huh?”

“What did you just say…?”

“Don’t worry about me, just go. It doesn’t matter. This party is hopeless anyway, so it’s better if we part ways like this.”

Their faces held indeterminate emotions. They were filled with uncertainty, merely expressing questions with their fixed expressions.

This was not the reaction they had expected; it was a development far beyond their predictions.

If Evan was the one they thought he was, he should have acted accordingly — he would have cried and begged them not to go. Or he should have exploded in rage, demanding what they were saying. Or at the very least, he should have resigned himself and let them leave.

Any of those reactions would have shown his affection for them.

But the current Evan was different.

His tone lacked even a hint of affection, and his gaze was unbearably light. It was as if he was looking at a stranger, or just another passerby on the street, indifferent.

“Alright then, let’s disband the party. Time to wrap this up,” Evan clapped his hands and rose from his seat.

“Wait a minute! Where are you going?”

“Evan! Are you serious?!”

Still in shock, the women watched him leave.

Why? His departing steps felt lighter than ever before.

  1. the fact that they didn’t realize they are worse than prostitutes is infuriating enough for me to want to rip my hair out. Prostitutes get money in exchange, they got a vague promise to two nobodies and didn’t even ask for the Original Evan to be able to join the group either
